Discreet Virtually Invisible Hearing Aids

Hearing devices you’ll barely notice

The idea of wearing hearing aids that are ‘on show’ can be a big factor in stopping people seeking help for hearing loss. For others, using an external device such as Behind the Ear hearing aids might get in the way of work or leisure – for example, if you need to wear glasses, goggles or protective headgear.

In these situations, a discreet or invisible style of hearing aid could be the answer. At Key to Hearing, we can supply a choice of models that range from the unobtrusive to the virtually invisible.

Types of discreet and invisible hearing aids

  • Completely in the Canal (CIC). Barely noticeable with limited functionality. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

  • Invisible in the Canal (IIC). Almost undetectable with limited functionality. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Which model is right for me?

Our Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser, Keeley Salmon, will visit you at home to assess your hearing and help you choose the right devices. Your available options will depend on your level of hearing loss, desired functionality, style preferences, comfort and budget.

For example, if you have severe hearing loss, or would like your hearing aids to be rechargeable, we’d have to rule out CIC and IIC straightaway. We appreciate the importance of discretion, but also believe the benefits of slightly larger – but still inconspicuous – hearing aids can sometimes outweigh the cosmetic advantages of invisible models.

Pros

Cons

  • Lightweight and inconspicuous – they fit deep in the ear canal so are virtually invisible
  • Not suitable for severe hearing loss
  • Close proximity to the eardrum enables devices to project sounds efficiently and reduce the likelihood of feedback
  • Batteries are small, so need changing more frequently which can cause problems for people with limited vision or dexterity
  • More natural sound quality, as there are no wires or tubes
  • Rechargeable options aren’t available
  • Can be custom-fitted for comfort, where the ear canal’s size and shape permits this
  • The size or shape of the ear canal can make a comfortable fit difficult to achieve
  • Don’t interfere with glasses or other types of headgear, including face coverings
  • Small size limits functionality, with features such as Bluetooth connectivity and directional microphones being unavailable
